I want to get a collie...

Question

is this a good idea?

i have a really big backyard for it to play in, and i could even get another big dog in case it gets lonely, any tips on how to keep it happy?

Oh collies are great dogs, loyal, very smart, and fun.  They do shed but if u brush them now and then it's ok.  Mine was friendly and protective of me, they are good with families with kids.  U won't reget getting one if u do. Oh and don't some ppl have a stick up their *** aka two other answers, lol!

well i hope you have a nice easel as your collie will want to pose for painting and portraiture, perhaps even join you in your endeavours of enriching lives through the arts as a painting partner, brushes for collies can be bought on line as can the canvases they use.

remember:  a painting collie is a happy collie.

Good idea?  Don't know.  Tips?   Ach.

The first answer noted you had a bit of difficulty locating the topic location for dogs.  Perhaps artists aren't the best folk for giving you tips about a herding dog.  For the collie is, indeed, a sheepherding dog.

Please do repost your question under the pets category, if you are really seeking a useful answer.  Many, many pets are displaced once half-grown, because their owners didna do their homework.  Large dogs trained to be lap pets are displaced for only following their packleaders' guidelines....  My collie was ever a bed-sleeper due to my early allowance after the marriage broke up.  Would hae been a problem had another taken place, as the bed was already occupied...The next dog learned the floor is fine.

Do please get a book on what dog breeds and like - big dogs need activity, collies crave herding, they have long coats that can tangle and hoard fleas, without proper precautions.  They are loyal, and you should be too - if you inform yourself as to their needs and are still bent on getting one.
