I heard that DeVry and Phoenix university was a scam. I dont have time to go to classes so I wanted to do the online thing but scared that I will pay money for something and the degree is useless. Has anyone used an online school that is legitimate? Did you get a good job with it? I want to go for creative writing but have no idea, please help i am tired of wasting money.

  1. You should try checking out a university in your local area.  Most of the time, they have an online component geared towards working individuals.  Personally, I went through this program: http://www.mb01.com/lnk.asp?o=1343&c=918...  It offered a number of degrees, and was very convenient in relation to my work schedule...Good luck.

  2. a degree from a top accredited online university is worth the same as the degree you get from your campus. not all the universities are fake..

Here are a few sites which Will help you decide which university to choose depending upon the subjects you have chosen or wish to get a degree in :

    http://www.topcriminaljusticedegrees.com

    http://www.psychologydegree.ws

    http://www.computersciencedegree.ws

  3. If you really don't have time to go to class, you also don't have time to complete an online degree.  The time commitment is the same either way, it's just that the online program is more flexible about when and where that time is.

Be sure to weigh whether you have time to complete whatever program you look at before you spend serious money on it.  Most of the online classes that I've taken (a lot of them) require more time than the classroom counterpart would - you just don't have to travel to a college and listen to a lecture.

I have a degree from Excelsior College that can be said to be "online" and it was more than sufficient to get me into a ranked master's degree program (in which I also did some online courses).

Understand though - it's not the degree that gets you a "good job", the degree is just one box to check in a series of boxes.  It's up to you to find the "good job" and creative writing isn't a field where most have "a job" -- they are most often freelance or independent.

  4. I suggest you try the University of Oklahoma, College of Liberal Studies. The link http://www.ou.edu should get you to the OU main web pages and you should be able to navigate to the CLS web page from there.
