  1. Although their size means they're usually cuter than syrian hamsters, I would recommend you don't get a dwarf hamster if you are planning on handling your hamster, especially not a roborovski dwarf hamster. I had one for almost three years, and although she was very cute I could never hold her as she was too fast and hard to catch and too small so she could easily wriggle out of tiny gaps between my fingers and run away. The other two main breeds of dwarf hamsters are russian and chinese, they're both a little bigger than roborovski but also both have downsides. I heard that russian hamsters aren't very friendly and my friend had chinese hamsters once, they were pretty hard to handle and have this strange growth-like thing on their butt.

Also, syrian hamsters only cost a few pounds/dollars more, so if it's friendship you're after, get a syrian.

  2. they are probably very fun. i have a syrian, and she is my baby! i love her soo much. they are a lot of work too. you have to clean the cage once a week, and feed and water her. you can't get one dwarf. u should get 2 or 3 because they are social. i think hamsters are amazing, and i don't know what i'd do without mine!

  3. I'm sure some of these other people know what they're talking about but from MY experience. My little sister got 2 Chinese dwarf hamsters and shes only been bitten once and shes usually rough with animals... I personally prefer rats though. They're really sweet and smart. You can teach them tricks and their names. I like them better than any other pets.

  4. You should research the pet that your interested in owning before you buy one. Find out whether a dwarf hamster is right for you or you might find your research leads you on to different breeds, and find out how much cages, food, toys etc.. would cost you.

  5. I wouldn't suggest a dwarf hamster because they aren't friendly. They cost anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars and are easy to take care of, but other types of hamsters are just as easy to take care of and don't bite as much. If you want a hamster I would say get a teddy bear hamster. they are soft, cute, and will recognize they sound of your voice after a while.

  6. teddy bear hamsters are probably the friendliest hamsters...dwarf hamsters can be quite evil...I had two that literally fought to the death. All the ones I've met are mean little boogers...

I prefer rats and mice over hamsters, much friendlier and easier to tame!

  7. My cousin had one and she loved it so much and they are cute but wear gloves when u hold him/her just in case.
