Ok so I have had a hamster before are they as hard to take care of as hamsters or lizards? I have had a lizard and hamster before (separate times) and they got to hard to take care of because I would get to busy but I really want a hermit crab but I need to know if they are easy to take care of I can feed them (food, water), give them items to climb on and hide in, and I can also play with them probably at least and hour a day or more, things I can not do I can not get 2 or use all of my free time up taking care of it I will love it and I already have a name for it (Martin Johnson) lol and it will have a Dora shell

so my questions are is it easy to take care of were can I get salt water for it do I have to have a lamp can I spray warm water in the cage to keep it moist and humid? please help me!!! and tell me all the basics and the hard stuff and just everything don't give me a link just tell me exactly what to do and a schedule I should have if you have one or have had one or just know everything about them then please help me!

  1. NO animal is as low key as a pet rock.

Sand stinks cause something IN it is making it stink (bacteria, mold, fungus, etc.)  Any of these scenarios is not good for your neglected pet.

Rodents stink cause they aren't getting the cleaning they need, and they ARE stinky creatures.

There is no animal for a busy kid/adult who has time to only check on it once a week as life happens.

It sounds like you presently can't manage the load you have, so WHY are you thinking of MORE?

Collections work when you have a devoted caregiver to see to their daily needs and cleaning.

An assortment of animals to impress your friends with is BAD in so many ways.

And if you "want to grow up and be in biology, and animal care/research" well, that starts young, and being responsible for the animals in your care.  OR from making mistakes, and learning, and getting degrees later in life.

I started to get my vet degree early, but life happened, and I had to opt out of college for a degree which paid my bills.  That didn't stop me from loving creatures, and wanting to help, and learning, all my life.  I do many things now.  I'm NOT a vet... but I'm close.

Your pets shouldn't smell.  If they do - you are doing something wrong.

You should not be here, asking for an opinion, if you truly care.  You would have researched, and then asked your vet for advice, or at the least - googled the animal.

There is really no reason to be here, asking for advice or help, unless you want someone to do the work for you.

So, let me post a link you will never click, to help you be a good owner:

    HERMIT CRABS: setup:

    http://www.hermit-crabs.com/index.html

LINKS are HOW YOU LEARN.  STOP being lazy - and READ!  Stop thinking the world will answer your questions.  Once you do all the links you can, and have contradictory information - ASK YOUR VET.

I'm not trying to be mean, or rude.  I'm just tired of clicking up questions for folks who really don't need help, and are JUST lazy.

This won't get me 10 pts., but I hope it gets YOU thinking along the right path.

Good luck with your new pet.

  2. No they are not. They are some of the easiest animals to take care of. You just drop in food into their food bowl, salt water so they can bath, and fresh water so they can have something to drink. The last thing you really need ( besides an aquarium ) is a heating pad so the guys don't get too cold during winter and fall.

You can find all the things you need at your local pet store. If not, petco or petsmart has them.

A bottle water with a spray is also needed to spray them when you feel its too dry in there.

Also invest in a suitable bark stump cut out so they can sit and chill, and fill the aquarium to about 2/5 with sand so they can dig.

I have 5 and theyre cute when they climb palm trees.

Edit: They smell bad, yes, but not as bad as 4 guinea pigs.

  3. THEY SMEEELLLLL

    really bad

  4. It not that hard you will just need food and some time change the sand, shell and give it water.I hope that help!
