The Only petshop near me that sells herps only sells species from australia. I was thinking either a Whites tree frog a Childrens python or a different australian reptile. I want something that is active, non-aggressive and isn't to difficult to care for.

  1. im from aussie and i would say both the blueys and the bearded dragons are great pets. the only problem with the beardies is that they eat so many cricket atleats 40 a day (when theyre young) they love thier owners as much as thier owner loves them they are non agressive unless u make them aggressive by tormenting them.

blueys now they are great pets non agressive loveable i would say they are cheaper to keep then beardies others wuld say different. but bluey can eat cat food non (fish based)

people say cat food is bad i beg the differ my mate breeds blueys and thier main staple is wiskers  meat with beef mince, and 1 a week a pinky and his bluey are going healthy

but 1 thing there is more care info on beardies but it is ur choice ur reptile will be a close companion. they beardie or bluey is the way to go

    i hope i helped u out

  2. If you can find one, I highly recommend an Irian Jaya Carpet Python.  The markings and color are beautiful and they only get 6-8 feet long.  Mine is very active and curious and has never bit me.  We feed him once a week, which is great because we travel a lot.  Do an online search for a local reptile club or show, that is where you'll find the most interesting species, and you can also talk with people who keep and breed snakes, and they can give you suggestions as well.

  3. The most interesting reptile from austrailia I have seen that you can buy in the states easily, is the Frilled Dragon.

He has a frill around his neck, that expands when frightened, or agitated, (think of the spitting dinosaur in Jurassic Park)

They fairly easy to care for, but should be a hands-off type of animal, they're not aggressive, but can give a decent bite, but not as big a bite as the pythons. Tree frogs can be interesting, but make sure you are using a de-chlorinated water, as they are very sensitive to chemicals in the water.
