Question:

I want to get a pet...?

I've ruled out the following: rats (they were my top choice but my mom said no), hamsters, mice, ferrets, dogs, cats, fish, any type of reptile, no farm animals, and I was thinking about a chinchilla, but the more I read about them, the more I found out that they don't really like to be held and get scared quite easily. I might also consider a bunny. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of bunnies and chinchillas and also any other animal you can think of for me to consider. Sorry the list doesn't leave many options. Thanks.

  1. Would gerbils fall under the category of hamsters?  Gerbils are fun.. too bad you couldn't get a rat though.  I really like rats.

    What about a guinea pig?

  2. I don't know much about chinchilla's, never owned them but a few friends of mine have them and all of there's are jumpy. All the rabbits I have had do not like to be held much. Plus rabbits are very messy. Have you thought of a guinea pig? They love to be held and aren't to messy and take up a lot less space than a rabbit. Good luck with whatever you choose. :D

  3. BUNNIES!@!@! Well There fun and playful, its fun building a playpen for them and looking for toys they would enjoy. Mine loves to nibble the phone book and baby toys i found. They usually use the "bathroom" in one spot usually opposite side of the water bottle. One Con is that they shed ( Misinformed about only 4 times a year) 4 times a year means: all summer ,fall ,winter ,spring. :X

  4. Puppi luv stole my words. :)

    xD

Bunnies are great, and if it snows you can leave them outside in their hutch with something covering it of course.

They also only eat pellets, but have veges as treats, note that they actually aren't to fond of carrots. ;)

They aren't that great with lil kids as they always handle them wrong.;)

  5. In addition to Puppi Luv's "bird con" answers, birds are quite messy. Feathers and bird seed husks get all over. Just make sure you do your research and are able to afford taking care of whichever animal you choose. There's someone on here who has a sick bunny but can't afford to take it to the vet, and that is very sad.

Rats really are very cool. I've never had one myself, but I've known a few. Maybe if you research them and tell your mom all the good things about them, she will change her mind? I know some people just can't stand the sight of their tails, but they can be very sweet little animals. My friend's used to crawl behind my neck, hang out in my shirt and nibble my hair. I loved it!

  6. i have a bunny and they are great pets! i also had a bird but ill talk about that later.

    Bunny Pros:

-they dont smell (as long as you keep everything clean)

-they can learn to use the litter box

-they can live inside the house or outside (as long as you keep them cool enough in the summer and warm enough in the winter)

-if you start from when their young (so they get used to it) you can take them on walks.

-they are quiet (unless they get scared or are in pain)

    Bunny Cons:

-they can be mean depending on how they are raised.

-they are delicate (as in if you accidently drop them, theyll likely break a bone)

-though they sometimes dont act like it, they need attention and need to be socialized.

-if you keep them inside and let them run around, they are likely to chew cords and anything made of wood.

    Bird Pros:

    - you can teach them to talk

-they dont take up much room (depending on how big they are)

-if you touch them starting from when they are younger, you can pet them

    - they dont smell

    - some birds become so atatched to thier owner that even if you go outside, they wont leave you.

    - you can walk around the house with the bird on your shoulder (i like this cuz its like your Never alone =] )

    Bird Cons:

-they can be noisy (some more than others)

-they can fly away (like out the door and never come back)

-they can bite and be mean (depending on how they are raised)

-it can be expensive (buying a bird and the supplies. some birds cost hundreds of dollars)

just make sure that if you get a bird, to buy one that is raised by hand and not the ones you get from petsmart and stuff. most of those turn out to be not very sociable.

    hope this helped!
