I just move into a large one bedroom. I have a free flying budgie, fish, and two guinea pigs.

Will the guinea pigs be at risk if i got a rat?

Would the rat have problems with my extreamly social budgie?

  1. If you get a good sized wire cage, it shouldn't be a big deal.  However, rats will attack (and kill) birds and other animals if they have the chance, so I highly recommend you not let them have access to each other when you are not home to watch.  (and really, they should not be near each other when you are home.)

Also, sometimes rats can be scared by the noises birds make.  I had a rat at my house waiting for my friend (She was going to foster him) and he got REALLY freaked out by my budgie.  None of my rats have ever been bothered by them, but the budgies are downstairs and the rats are upstairs.  I have guinea pigs, too, but they also live downstairs.  A one room may be a little cramped with all those pets, but I guess that just matter on how big the room is.

definitely get at least 2 rats, though, not just one.

  2. Are all your animals free to roam around the house? That's a terrible idea. There are a lot of things that they could get into (electrical cords, cleaners, toilets, etc). Also, few landlords would be happy about loose rats and might even try to trap them. But if you have all these pets in cages I don't see why you couldn't have a rat.

  3. umm mabye not if you alredy have guinea pigs not to be mean but do you speand enoth time with your other pets ?

    im not being mean ok

  4. i would see if they get along but i probably wouldnt put them in the same cage together unless they do really get along because i wouldnt want to even risk it... but if you arnt putting them together in the same cage then it should be fine.

  5. You shouldnt put different species of animals in the same cage, like rats and guinea pigs together they do not get along together.

  6. guinea pigs are very social and most rats are to try to hold the rat/s at the pet shop and see if they are social if they seem like it comeback later with one of your pets see how they react if its good then it would be fine to have 2 or 1 rat/s
