im 16 and i have a rather large hip tattoo and of course a tattoo will hurt. although, my tattoo only took 20 minutes and after 4-5 minutes the area numbes itself so you wont feel it as much.

First off, all tattoos hurt to some extent. Needles will be penetrating your skin no matter where you get a tattoo, and generally that is painful for most people. How much it hurts depends on your tolerance to pain, which differs from person to person. My tattoos on my back hurt, but they took seven hours to do. Small stars behind your ear sound like they couldn't take more than 20 mins to do. You should be fine. Just think of other pain you've experienced and how well you tolerated that pain. That's the best you can do.

No one can tell you if it will hurt or not. Everyone has a different pain tolerance. Someone said that all tattoos hurt...I disagree with that, my tattoo above my elbow on the back of my arm never hurt. My tattoo behind my ear felt like a tickle. It might hurt, it might not...no one can say for sure.

i have the date of my son's birth behind my left ear, and the date of my son's passing behind my right, that way it's always on my mind.

they did hurt, mainly because that's skin stretched over bone, and there's not a whole lot of meat there.  it's going to be pretty painful, but it won't take long to do it.. the most annoying thing you'll ever experience is the buzzing of the tattoo machine right in your ear. Guaranteed, that will drive you crazy. you'll forget all about the pain with that loud buzzing.
