I want to get another fish but the fish I have in tank now eats some fish. Should I risk it?

I have a goldfish-like-fish and he ate one of my fish and killed two. Should I risk it and get another fish?

Goldfish are thought of as kind and loving fish, but no they are not. They are solitary fish that are best kept alone or in a group of 4 or more, excepting breeding pairs. A fish that you could add is a pleco that has been trained for cold water. You probably have a comet or a type of goldfish. Goldfish is a sub species of carp meaning there is several goldfish that are not really even gold like a moor.

"Goldfish-like-fish"? It either is a goldfish or isn't. Don't keep fish you can't identify. If its killed off other fish, keep it alone. Why waste your money on fish you suspect might only last a week? Identify your fish, research its real needs, evaluate your tank size and go from there.

I wouldnt suggest it. However, if you keep an eye out on classified ads or yard sales you might be able to find another tank cheap just for the Gold fish and use the existing tank for new fish if that is what you would like to do. People tend to think that only Oscars etc will eat other fish. This is not true. The nature of fish is bigger fish eat smaller fish. "The food chain."

no sometimes they don't want their environment disturned. I had the same problem with gold fish. Try getting a pleco or snail because they are algae eaters and the fish usually dont bother them

You need to go to your pet store and ask for advice on what kind of fish to buy that won't kill each other off. I think they are called community fish but, again your best advice is to ask.

You could keep killer in his or her own tank.. Also, watch out for the size of fish you buy and keep all about the same.

Plants and hiding places are good things to have in your tank and one more thing-don't forget to feed them!
