  1. Um, coral is an animal.  Taking coral-based calcium wouldn't be vegan.

Why don't you just use calcium fortified soy or almond milk and calcium set tofu in your smoothies.

  2. unless you have some sort of calcium deficiency, you dont need to be worrying about calcium intake as long as youre eating the right foods. ex. whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, fruits, vegs. you will be fine don't worry

  3. Just have soy milk and fortified breakfast cereal.

  4. Calcium sources other than soy products include green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, collard greens, cabbage, etc.), watercress, dried fruit/figs, seeds and nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame), black molasses, chickpeas, parsley, wholemeal bread, oats, almond butter, broccoli, beans (baked, black, pinto, navy, kidney), kale, mustard greens, turnip greens, tahini, okra, bok choy. Plant milks, bread, cereal, & orange juice are often fortified with calcium. Hummus with pita bread also provides a great source.

For breakfast I would include fortified hot or cold cereal with fortified rice, hemp or oat milk. A breakfast pita sandwich with hummus, chickpeas, beans and other vegetables, with a side of nuts.

  5. Try having cereal with rice, soy, almond, hemp, sesame seed, pumpkin seed, or whatever vegan milk on it. But, if you want a smoothie (the fruits are just a suggestion, you can use whatever you want) , try putting 3 plums, 1 banana, and 1 cup soy milk (or whatever milk alternative) in a blender with some ice. Silk soy milk also makes extra calcium soy milk, so you could try drinking that or putting it in a smoothie. Also, maybe take a vitamin D vitamin with your smoothie because vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium.

  6. Use fortified soymilk on your cereal. Maybe try a fortified breakfast cereal.

And don't forget to eat dark green leafy vegetables. Kale and broccoli are especially high in calcium.

  7. Coral is the shell of marine organisms, so as a vegan you can't eat that.

Soy milk is a good way to get calcium in your shakes or smoothies.

  8. calcium fortified soy & juices

  9. I like almond milk, it has a good percentage of calcium in it

  10. To obtain calcium I put dark leafy greens through a juicer, and then put both the juice and the pulp into a blender with fruit, to create a green smoothie.  You could also just blend greens with fruit and water or fruit juice.  If you use green juice instead of water then you're able to get more greens in.

The best greens for calcium are kale, watercress, turnip greens, parsley, collards, pak choi, broccoli.  These contain the least oxalates (found in most veg) which block calcium absorption.  However I often use cabbage/spring greens (because it's cheaper) and spinach (because its easy soft and therefore very easy to blend.)

My favourite juice-smoothie is spring-green/cabbage juice with orange, banana, nectarines, peaches, plums.

My favourite whole-smoothie is 200g kale with 4 bananas.  (not ideal for health I know).

    This is my breakfast.

You could also use sesame seed milk as the liquid which makes a nice milkshake.  Or just add the pulp leftover from making sesame/almond milk.  Adding a spoonful of dried algae or wheatgrass powder would add a bit of calcium.  Seaweed is a brilliant source of minerals especially calcium but more than a spoonful or two would spoil your smoothie taste-wise.  If you want a savoury shake then seaweed adds salty flavour and fermented green veg (which deactivates their antinutrients and makes the good nutrients easier to absorb) add a vinegary flavour.

Sprouted sunflower greens are a superfood.  Soak sunflower seeds for 24 hours, drain, rinse 2 or 3 times a day for a week until they are white shoots with 2 green leaves on top.  Anne Wigmore's recipe for healing all kinds of diseases was:

    blend =

    1 tbs dulse

    3 cups sunflower greens

    1 cup sprouted lentils

    apple or papaya

enough rejuvelac or water to blend.

    optional extra greens

I add a banana to make it taste nice.
