I'm 16 and 6ft one.

my weight is now 174 (but it varies between 172 and 174)

First of all is that a healthy weight?

Secondly i want to lose weight and continue to progress healthwise. (this isnt a quick fix)

But the problem is that i feel so weak all the time and get either instantly exhausted or bored with running.

I cant do pushups (well i can but my normal high is about 5)

My exercising consists mainly of horseback riding. I ride around 4-5 days a week usually. I do western so i dont post most of the time but sometimes i do it just for fun!

My eating habits are kinda bad. I dont eat junk food. I just eat a lot. That's a huge part of my problem. I dont like eating a lot its just become a habit over the summer.

What are some good diet and workout plans for me? Im willing to try but i kind of need a strick but entertaining schedule while working out to keep me focused. Please help! im not happy with my health!

  1. Here are some of the ways I like getting exercise in - I just blogged about it -

  2. It sounds like you are ready for a change - not a quick fix crash diet.  I think your weight sounds good and perfectly healthy, but you know how you feel, and if you lousy, it may not be because of what you weigh, but what you eat.You may need to drastically change your diet - depending on what you eat now.  For the past 5 years I've been researching true health and nutrition form different cultures and centuries to see what type of diet works best for the human body.  I have found that tons of vegetables, olive oil, coconut oil, free range meats (no shell fish or pork), limited dairy and absolutely no sugar at all is best for all-around optimal health.  The bulk of your carbs need to come from veggies, and fruit (no juice).  The little grain you do eat should be sprouted (your body will process it as a vegetable/protein rather turn it into sugar - try Ezekiel Bread, it's found in the frozen section and comes in tons of varieties).  Fats and oils don't make you fat - as long as you eat the right ones.  Olive oil, coconut oil, raw seeds and nuts, avocados, eggs - all are super healthy and an essential part of your diet.  I am 27, have a 2 year old, am 5'9'' and weigh 125 lbs.  I tell you this because eating this way has balanaced my weight without feeling hungry.  And when I do get hungry, I eat - without feeling guilty because I know what I am eating is healthy, whole food.  Even though I eat high fat foods, lots of healthy oil, I remain trim and fit and my body is not constantly asking for more because I give what it needs.  Processed foods are empty and leave your body void of nutrients - which may be why you eat large quantities -  your body is asking for higher quality, not higher quantity.

I would recommend going to a chiropractor, getting adjusted regularly (to keep your body operating correctly) and ask him/her to start you on the Standard Process Liver Purification Program.  It helps your body shed accumulated sludge and toxins and jump starts your new healthy lifestyle.  Your body will be able to matobolize food and process toxins more efficiently  - it's awesome!  Take as small as steps as you need - it's a lot to take in, but it's well worth it.  I suggest reading Total Health by Dr. Mercola (mercola.com)and The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin.  They are jam packed with truth and will change your life.  I hope I have helped and have not overwhelmed you.  I tried to keep it short, but I can't seem to shut up.  I hope for the best for you, and commend you for taking interest and responsibility for health!

  3. First of all, you are at a healthy weight.  Your BMI is 23, and healthy is between 18.5 and 24.9.  Try to find some variety in your workouts - kickboxing is great, and will really help tone your body.  As far as eating is concerned, try to eat foods that are high in fiber.  They will keep you full longer, so you won't feel like you need to eat as much.  Also, drink plenty of water, and make sure you are getting enough sleep!

  4. I think you may be eating too much of one food group. This isn't balanced and that's why you have no energy. I ride once or twice a week, western and I like posting sometimes also, but I feel the same low feeling if I haven't eaten a balanced meal three times a day. You don't need to run a lot if you're not eating right. Summertime can produce bad eating habits. It's harder for my clients to do what I tell them when there's a party every weekend. You're a normal teenager. Try to make those two changes : slow down the running and eat a balanced meal three times a day.

  5. To start off, your weight isn't bad.  It's above the "recommended" for someone your age, but your height makes up for that a little bit.  That's the trick to sticking with an exercise program is to switch it up and keep it interesting.  I do a lot of running, but not everyday.  I'll run a few miles (not all that quickly) for one day, another day I'll run a shorter distance but pick up the pace a bit, plus I like to switch my routes up.  That makes it less boring too.  You can throw in a little weight lifting too.  Just start with something small and do some dumbbell curls or any kind of lift you can think of really.  I also love sports, so any time some friends want to play basketball or football, maybe even ultimate frisbee, I'll go play and I'll really work hard and make sure that I'm getting a lot out of it.

To cut down on food, drink more is one of the obvious answers.  Water is the best, and most anything that is low calorie.  Chug away and you won't be nearly as hungry.  Spread out your meals too and have five or six smaller meals rather than three bigger ones.  That'll get your metabolism going and will help turn those calories to energy quicker.  Hope everything works out ok!
