if u want to get the passport 4 ur wife. first u shuld hav a passport and u hav to giv noc to her. u hav to show the proof that u both r married by showing ur wedding invitation...! dat's it

Yes, it is required. Recently my father in law who retired long before applied for a passport and even for him, they had referred to his department and then only issued the passport.
