  1. When it comes to acting, know what you are getting yourself into. There are literally thousands of unemployed actors in this world and you can't get acting jobs easily. You will go to some auditions, if you are lucky enough to get picked for them. Most of the time (if not all the time) you will be faced with rejection.

If you are still set on doing this, get more experience. Most young actors on an agency's books are put in a "directory" of actors called spotlight. You have a head-shot and a box that lists all your experience and skills. You will be up against kids who can dance, act, sing, have circus skills and many many others, so if you have very little get some experience. Extra work is often good, but can be difficult if you are at school or can't drive as agencies will book you and expect you to be mobile. Similarly if you are "serious" about acting then some may say that extra work is a bad idea. There are NO guarantees in this business and a thick skin is essential.

Still reading? I am London based so don't know any agencies up in the north west, but if I was you I would avoid any internet based agencies unless you are purely interested in extra work. Contact LIPA (liverpool institute for performing arts) and ask their advice as it is probably the largest and best drama institute in the north. Open auditions (i.e. auditions open to everyone whether or not they are on an agency's books) are advertised on www.thestage.co.uk. If you are interested in doing theatre work, make sure you learn at least 1 dance discipline (modern or jazz are a good idea).

Good luck, you are letting yourself in for one h**l of a ride!

Always remember that acting is not a matter of you choosing a job, it is about the job choosing you.

  2. The best way is to start going to a youth theatre school/group and then just keep doing auditions

    Good luck :)
