  1. your best bet is to go on line on man power sites and see what companies are looking for right now for employees and the requirements they are asking for.For example if you want to be a field level geologist look into junior mining companies or even larger ones like Vale or Extrata and see want is needed for the education and take it from there. You need to find your niche and specialize from there in your education for your career

  2. i am in this field right now.  I can suggest a number of firms by where you live.  You best option is being an environmental consultant, where you need a geology/environmental science degree. It is, as other jobs where you first few years you will be in the 30,000's then you you will be making serious money once you get job experience.   if you google, or oops* yahoo environmental consultants than you get websites of people who do this work. There are some companies that specialize in wetlands, some that do former industrial sites, some that just do gas stations.  The truth is that you can make a good income, by doing this.  It took me a few years after I graduated to find it out! The enviromental market is just fine, even in michigan (where everything else is bad).  You could also look online at the usgs website. You should go wherever you want live.  The world is yours :) You might also want to check out urban planning jobs. A lot of environmental companies do urban planning as well.

  3. There are probably numerous universities that offer a degree in geography.

One possible source of jobs for a geographer is with the U.S. Government within many different departments and agencies.
