  1. Magicjack or Skype. Skype wont do you 911 but you'll be talking all day and night to US and Canada for like $60 for a year.  i use it like a teen line to my optimumvoice.

  2. Any VoIP "home phone replacement" service will give you prepaid service on month-by-month basis.  Monthly payments are via your credit card.  As long as your credit cards are valid, you shouldn't have any credit issues subscribing.  Otherwise, find a service that accepts PayPal payments.

Home phone replacement VoIP services will also include 911.

Some "home phone replacement service" VoIP provider examples are:  Inphonex, CallCentric, Packet8, ViaTalk, AT&T CallVantage, Charter, Voip.com, iConnectHere, EarthLink TrueVoice.

I guess the trick with VoIP service is that if you can't use DSL through your telephone line, then you will require Cable Internet service.  If credit is an issue, that could be problem with cable company too?

If you phone line is currently not connected (no dial-tone), it is possible to find DSL services that offer "Dry loop" or "Naked DSL" service through your existing phone line - it doesn't require local phone company service.  Once you have a "Naked DSL" Internet service, then you can use any VoIP service of your choice.

One company that provides dry-loop/naked DSL service is Yak Communications.

Actually, if you were using Verizon home phone service, they were probably using dry-loop/naked DSL access for your line.  It is just a matter of finding another company that provides dry-loop service in your area (if there are any).

  3. I would get the MagicJack.com .......its yours and all the long distance you wanna make, and no one ever checks your credit again!!! you put it into your USB port....download the software....use any old phone and go!!!
