Okay last year around August I got a Female Guinea pig who I named Chichi. Well, With me working and what not now I don't spend as much time as I use to with her. I don't want her to feel lonley when I'm not around and she is very social so I thought that maybe I should get her another guinea pig to live with.

Chichi usualy gets along with any person or animal that comes around her. She's very social and even loves the cats! so I'm pretty sure all should go well for getting her a friend.

I'm just wondering what size cage and how much it's gonna cost for a cage to house two guinea pigs?

Also if I was to get another female will it fight with Chichi?

And lastly what are some cute names to go with Chichi? Boy and Girl names.

And just for the heck of it here is a picture of my Chichi:

  1. Awwww! Chichi is adorable. When I was growing up, I got a guinea pig (a girl) and then we went to get a second-the pet store recommended a boy. If there is only two guinea pigs, a gender mix is best. The two females COULD fight. But once my guinea pigs had babies, we got more from the store and ended up with 9 at one point (fenced in an area outside with my rabbit) and they never fought. So, my advice to you would be to go to the store where you got Chichi and ask a person who works there about having two females together. It may be OK. Good luck! Enjoy your animals! As for a name, I am not very creative with names, sorry!

  2. chichi is adorable

i have 2 guinea pigs that are 6 mo old

    and i built them a c&c cage

that is 3 grids in leangth and 2 gris withe + a uper level 2 by 2

  3. definetly get a male guinea as a friend for your chichi.  Females tend to be territorial with eachother, even if they love any other animal that crosses thier path.  The only problem would be any baby guineas that show up.....( boy meets girl guinea....!)   I would try to adopt a guinea first, from a pets lifeline or somewhere, where you can see if the two get along, especially if you do want to get chichi a girl friend.  Plus, you would be giving a 'homeless' guinea a new home, with a friend to be with.

  4. Females can be territorial, especially when they are in heat, but they can absolutely be kept together. As long as the cage is big enough to give them some room to spread out if they annoy one another, it should be fine. Also, I would suggest two of everything in the cage (bowls, bottles, hidies, etc.) to lessen chances for quarrels. It is usually advisable to get a younger, smaller same-s*x companion for an older piggie. Many shelters will neuter a boar before rehoming him, so an altered male is a possibility.

Whatever you decide, make sure to follow three weeks of strict quarantine, and introduce them in neutral territory. Good luck.

  5. Gosh, people here are ignorant. Keeping two females together is absolutely fine. Please do NOT keep a male with her. Glad you're getting her a friend since guinea pigs are highly social and do best in same s*x pairs/groups.

As for the cage, you can build your own cheap and easy: http://www.guineapigcages.com/
