I know how you feel you need other thing in the real world to replace the computer life  its not easy to do considering the withdrawal's

ctrl+alt+deleat >applications>end the one u want..... works 99.9%of the time

just unplug the modem / lan cable or turn off your wireless.

shut down your computer.

Reboot from the power button or unplug your comp for a quick fix but u might have some messages warning u not to turn ur comp off like that anymore, FYI.
