I get anxiety attacks whenever I see a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning, Im 17 years old and live in Oklahoma City so I was thinking about moving to Las Vegas and attending school there because they dont have any bad weather, Is it foolish to move because you dont like the weather where you live?

  1. That is the main reason I never moved back to Oklahoma or any where else in tornado alley.  I will put up with the ocassional earthquake anytime.  Here in the central valley, I have felt one that happened on the other side of the mountains.  They occur quite often there, but is not know here unless the news covers it.  There are some earthquakes in Las Vegas, but very far between.  Keep an eye on this site to get information.  I can recall one tornado in the Las Vegas area a few years ago as well.  There are sites that will give that information as well.  Try the noaa.gov.

  2. Not foolish at all.  I lived in Arkansas for 5 years and I couldn't wait to leave just because of the weather.  I also got an anxiety attack every time I saw a weather report talking about storms.  I stayed up all night watching the radar on TV.  My family thought I was a little obsessive about the whole thing, but I was really scared!  I have since lived in Northern California (Beautiful!) and the weather is unbelievably mild.  Hot in the summer for sure, but still very mild weather all throughout the year.  I have also lived in Colorado and Utah.  Cold winters, but beautiful summers.

I don't think picking your new home based on the amount of Tornadoes is really the best choice for you.  Leaving tornado alley is probably a good idea, but you don't have to find only one place that is best.  Colorado has very few tornadoes and they are mainly out to the east.  I am not afraid of them anywhere else besides Tornado alley.   You are used to the impending doom of intense F5 tornadoes.  I have been through some bad tornado alley storms and they are absolutely terrifying.....but storms outside of Tornado alley aren't even close.  Give the rest of the country a chance before you choose solely based on weather.  I have friends who lived in L.V. and they didn't like it.  It's very hot, dry and aside from the "strip"  they said it was pretty boring.  Just one person's opinion though.

  3. Its not foolish....thats why there are so many people here in southern california!  vegas has flash floods and extreme heat....you should come to Cali!  An earthquake every 10 to 20 years....big deal!  Perfect weather here.

  4. I would come East rather than west. I live in NW ohio and we rarely get storms that cause tornados (exception 2 nites ago where we almost did) but we don't get tornados very often. Our weather phenomenon is usually thunderstorms in the summer and snow in the winter.

    -Hope this helps-
