  1. I went to a dermatologist when I used to have acne, the treatment that helped me the most successfully was a topical medicine called Erythromycin Topical 2% (not sure of spelling), it can only be gotten through prescription, it was a liquid that came in a bottle that looked like a bingo dabber and I had to use it twice a day after washing my face, if I slacked off the zits came back, when I used it though my skin cleared up completely. The thing about this medicine was that after a while I developed a tolerance and it did not work any more. The dermatologist will have other medications you can try as well. When had acne the over the counter stuff never seemed to help. I finally out grew it but here are some of the things I learned:

You will be tempted to over clean your face with harsh cleansers but that actually makes it worse, use face washes that say they are gentle or hypoallergenic

Do not touch your face or pick at them because your hands have bacteria on them...wash your hands frequently because it's hard to break the habit of touching your face.

OK I know it's easier said than done but drink a lot of water and try to stop drinking soda and other sugary drinks. I actually can attest to this because I once stayed at someone's house where they did not buy soda (and I was a soda junky), I drank a lot of water and milk as well as healthy home cooked meals and my skin looked great!

I wish I could give you a quick fix but believe me I looked and like I said the best fastes results I ever got was the Erythromycin Topical 2%.

The only other tip I have is that my niece (who still has breakouts) get facials to clear up her skin, it's not cheap but she is very happy with the results.

P.S. If insurance is an issue, some health clinics have dermatologists and operate on a sliding fee scale.

  2. Walmart has their own brand of "proactive" and I heard it works well but you have to stick to it and not miss applications and washings, just follow the directions.

  3. Why don't you wash your face then?

  4. What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

P.S. I also know someone who used to suffer from severe acne for 14 YEARS and finally got rid of it completely. She's sharing her story at her site:

Maybe you could learn from her inspirational story
