  1. Piggies should get at LEAST an hour of floor time daily, ideally. The best way to tempt your piggie is with treats. I don't mean healthy treats so much as small pieces of his favorite fruits and veggies. I also recommend getting your piggie a same s*x friend because they are really social and do best in same s*x pairs or groups :).

Edit: Amanda is incorrect. The "males will fight" thing is a common misconception when it comes to guinea pigs. If properly introduced and kept in an adequately sized cage, male guinea pigs can get along just fine as can guinea pigs not brought up together.

Guinea pigs are herd animals and really do best with friends. Human interaction can never replace same species interaction.

  2. I don't recommend getting your guinea pig a friend, unless it was already raised with another guinea pig. Males tend to be very territorial and will fight and severely hurt each other. Females are not quite so territorial but they do fight too. I would say get out your guinea pig as often as you want to as long as they are ok with it.
