  1. On the rump is better. Here's how to locate where...

On the rump, draw a line from the hip bone to the tail bone, about 3 inches in from the back bone. Draw down from the hip toward the tail, your lines will look like this <, then connect from the tail down, making a triangle. That soft area is where you want to put it.

On the neck, from the front of the shoulder in the center of the neck, draw a line forward about four inches, that is where you want to put it. You can make a triangle here as well....

I decided to see if there was any diagram to show you what I mean....here you go:

    Great site w/lots of info!

  2. If you don't know where to give the injection, find somebody who does.  You can try your farrier or a local boarding barn.

We don't give ours in the neck... I've seen too many abscesses develop, some with severe complications.  I prefer the rump.

Either way, keep trying to find somebody that can show you the proper way to do it.

  3. I agree, keep looking for someone to help you. Just to be cautious, I wanted to mention that the West Nile is not an intervenous shot, placing it in the fatty tissue at the rump is also where we give ours.

  4. before vaccinating your horse for west nile virus, you should visit this website:
