Question:

I want to give up diet coke!?

I always drink diet coke in the morning to give me energy because it is caffeinated, but I know drinking soda everyday isn't good for me. If you have given up soda, how did you feel different and what are the health benefits? And what can I drink instead that is healthier but will still give me energy I need in the morning?

I just quit my diet coke habit a few months ago and it was hard!  I was a super drinker - hitting about 64oz a day, so it was rather dramatic.  I started by doing a week of only a can a day.  Still sounds like a lot but I had some really good headaches that week.  I was pretty useless at work too.  The next week I had soda, but a diet and non-caffeinated soda.  That was just to keep me going.  Since then I have just stuck mostly to water, though I do keep some of those Crystal Light packs in my desk at work to add to the water when I really need some flavor.  It doesn't really wake you up in the morning, but I am able to sleep better at night without the caffeine, so I am more awake in the morning.

    Be careful when trying to get off the caffeine, if you get headaches make sure you don't take a medicine with caffeine in it.  That will just delay your withdraws.  Just drink a lot of water and exercise.  It will help you feel better.  Good Luck!

  6. Um... ya soda is bad for you if you drink it every day. It makes you fat even if it is diet and it gives you cavaties. You should stop drinking it. Drink coffee or tea instead. They both give you energy. I would recomend the tea cuz i guess it's healthier.

  7. in the morning you can drink the ne cran energy drinks.  they are really good.  You can also do sparkling water with juices during the day.  it is not too hard.  I had a drastic reduction in migrains when I reduced my diet soda intake.

  8. I quit by drinking sprite, then ginger ale, then juice. Diet coke is really bad becausee of the aspertame in it. For more info on aspertame go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame

  9. I dropped over 30 punds giving up the soda... It cut my cravings for other sweets like cookies and chocolate... I started drinking teas... all varieties, green, black, and herbals.  I didn't add sugar or sugar subs, because I wanted to keep the calories down.  Some times I would even make it by the pitcher and mix different types of teas to get a tropical taste or whatever!  You can also make a cup of tea and mix it with apple juice or white grape juice in a taller glass, it gives you a natural boost with the fruit sugar and caffine.

  10. No way!  Diet  coke isn't bad for you if you're not drinking a ton a day - if you want to ease up on the caffeine get the caffeine free diet coke!

I too gave up diet soda about a month ago,and I feel so much better,I do not feel bloated,like that real full feeling from soda.I now,swear by Cranergy(energy juice drink) by ocean spray...It is delicious,I drink like 8oz. in the morning,no need for coffee,it is GREAT 35 calories per serving..try it!

  14. I gave it up by replacing it with orange juice, it wasnt all at once, I just realised that it had been a while since I last drank coke, and I kept buying OJ from then on, it was easy as, you just gotta want to stick with it.

    In the mornings taking a shower gets me energised,

    When I quit, I lost about.. 10lbs very quickly and I just felt so much better, because I was pretty much living for my next glass of coke.

I think it's bad, because they've done tests where it shows drinking diet soda makes you fatter than if you drank regular soda!  Anyway, I would start drinking coffee or tea.  I'm naturally turned off by coffee, but once I take a few sips from the cup, I'm hooked and I can't stop drinking it.  If you don't have a drip machine or anything, you can always make "cowboy coffee" just as well.

  18. well i've never gave up soda but i barly drink it and i know diet sodas give u cancer or so they say ...oh and dont drink energy drinks either they are bad 4 ur heart try milk or orange jucie or coffee if u like it I hate coffee. i hope that helps.
