I dropped out of college in Feb 2007 at which time i started working for my fathers business. Then in January of this year i moved into a house with two friends of mine. This lasted only about 3 months as we were evicted, but during that time one of my housemates mothers passed away. The other housemate and I promised to find another house together as he was very upset and more or less on his own.

We found another house in May and we settled in well. However this August I recevied an offer from a college course that i would really like to try.The course starts in September and it means i wouldnt be able to live in the house anymore. I dont know how to tell my housemates, or if i can find someone to take my place as my name is on the lease. Then theres having to tell my dad i dont want to work for him anymore.

Please help, i have very little time to decide!!

  1. I'm not sure what you really need advice on here. If this is a good opportunity that will better your future, then the people in your life who love you should understand. And if that's not the case, sometimes you've got to make sure you look out for you. Go do your college courses, explain to your dad that it's not that you don't want to work for him but that this is a good opportunity, tell your friends that you are really sorry, but this just came up and you'll help find someone to take over the lease, put the apt. up on craigslist and enroll in school.

  2. Ok, so you think that the college course is the right direction for you?  Then the first thing to do is sit down with your dad.  Do it today.  Make it a pleasant moment with a cup of coffee and in a quiet place where you are both relaxed.  Explain the situation and the problem with the house and housemates.  Your dad can probably advise you about it all.  He wants the best for you.  Try and advertise and find someone for the lease or you are going to be out a lot of money. After talking to your dad , then do the same thing with your housemates and if they are true friends they will try and help you find someone to share the house with.  If all else fails, talk to your landlord and see if you can come to some agreement with regards to getting out of the lease.  Good luck.  Study hard and make everyone proud.
