  1. you should consider Accounting, it is one of the most needed job in America right now behind nursing and the pay starting out is an average of 43000 a year. I am going to Purdue University right now, I will be a Sophomre this year and i am majoring in Accounting and all the business professors have said that is a very smart move

  2. you might want to consider something like biological sciences, you can get a lab job basically right after you graduate.

there are lots of labs though for this degree so this might not work for your time schedule.

  3. Graphic Design (my major so I'm biased) its fun, its creative, pays decently...starts you around 30k and can go up to 50k or even more in a good company and if you're good, this has been around since around the renaissance, artists will always be needed for business to promote their services, even hospitals need to promote themselves.

I wouldn't go after being a teacher as the pay is often low and the "need" isn't always there as they say it is. You could go to community college and get a 2 year degree in office administration and be a receptionist at a company. You could be a medical secretary at a doctor's office or hospital, that's in the 20k range but can go higher if you stick with a company.

There are many things that you could go into. I'll give you a site of various careers (professional and trade) and their salaries, its a list that the government compiles and its very helpful. Just make sure you visit the career services at your college and ask them if you can get a job with a degree in whatever you are pursuing.

I would avoid a liberal arts major simply because its too broad and not specialized enough. If you get a degree in English or Philosophy then what can you really do? A degree does help but it usually helps having a more specialized degree. Although some jobs just require you to have a degree, any degree so it all depends what job you are seeking and at which company.

EDIT: btw, you would probably want to get a job that offers more opportunities since you have 3 kids, I'm sure promotions and raises would help out your whole family, plus you have to think of your retirement too.

  4. Teaching your schedual is the same as the kids and you have summers and all major holidays off.
