I am a 23 year old single mother and i would love to go to College but i am worried that i will not be able to afford it. I also am worried that i will not get any help towards childcare and living costs. I heard that full-time students are not entitled to means tested benifits which i am receiving at the moment so what help can i get?

  1. As long as the course is not more than 16 hours TEACHING time a week you get to keep your benefits and get help with travel, books and child care costs but some colleges take a while to get this money through to you.  Many of the courses they say are full time still come under the 16 hours teaching so check them out.  This does not include time spent studying ie, library, home study etc.

  2. Have you heard of the Adult Learning Grant? It's a bit like EMA, but it's for adults returning to education. Find out more at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAnd...

  3. yes , most collegues have a creche , and there is a adult scheme fund i think  aswell , good luck x*x

  4. I did an access course a year ago. You are entitled to the Access Fund at College but not anything else, you will still get your tax credits and income support though. Make sure you get your child into the college creche early though!
