I currently have a dark auburn brown color (dyed) which is around a 3 on the color scale. Naturally though I am like a 6 but it is more of an ash color. I would like to go to about a 6 but in a true blonde color. I know that box dye is not the best for your hair but I am living on a college budget and right now it is impossible for me to go to a salon (I used to go to a cosmetology school where they would do it really cheap...but it closed : ( ). I know it doesn't usually turn out if you do it all at once but if I gradually go lighter like one shade every two weeks to a month will it work? I am in no hurry but would like for my hair to be closer to it's natural color.

Also, I would like to put dark highlights in it when I get it blonde...is there a good way to do highlights with box color that doesn't include buying the highlights kit from the store because I don't think they usually turn out. I know how they do the highlight process in salons but I wasn't sure if this would work for box dye.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. im sorry hon but i dont think theres anyway u can do it with the box colors dye thing because even if u try ure hair could get really messed up and ull just end up regretting it.

  2. Dont do it.. you will look like an orange

  3. Dying dark hair, that isn't natural, lighter, doesn't work. I had dyed my hair black, and wanted to go lighter, but I didn't want to ruin it by bleaching it, since I knew that was the only way. So I found "Color Zap" color remover, and used that. It worked! It's real cheap, and you can dye your hair the same day. I missed my dark hair so I dyed it back to black after a while though lol. But I would do that again if I needed to!
