I want to go from the coastal north east to the coastal north west... by train... going through Canada by?

was considering amtrak... I love to drive but for a short trip driving would take up the whole time practically. what do you think of amtrak service rates etc? Whats the least expensive way to go... I would need a bed a night or two...

    If you want to take a transcontinental train trip in the U.S. from New York to Seattle, you take two Amtrak trains:  The Lake Shore Limited from NYC to Chicago, and the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle.  http://www.amtrak.com
