  1. This "Going Green" thing has become the new "pet rock" for the 21st century and everybody and their brother is trying to cash in. Products that have been on the market for some time are environment friendly: Simply Green will clean just about everything as well as Murphy's oil soap, Ivory soap, the citrus based cleaners that are so popular now and Oxy Clean aka "hydrogen peroxide". Most store brand paper products are made from recycled paper. Just a little homework can provide many more products that are environment friendly

  2. Start recycling first if you havent already. That alone will make a difference. Just spread the message of going green to others who can afford to and you'll be doing the right thing.

  3. We have a duty to put pressure on suppliers to make green products less costly so that they become first choice for poor people.

If we persist in overcharging for these products just to make a better profit for green manufacturers, we lose anyway. The Poor must be part of the solution, or there is no solution.

  4. i go green and i have the same problem but i use those cheap products and the really cheap kind are kinda good for the enviroment =))

  5. The cost is directly related to the amount of energy needed to create the goods.  Cheaper goods required less energy.

So you can buy less expensive items, and be as green as the snobs next door.  Maybe more so.

  6. Install solar hot water. You will save money in the long run. And there is a really good rebate on solar power and hot water systems. Also, go vegetarian. It's better for you, its better for the environment and your not being cruel to animals. Its a good way to go green and reduce your carbon footprint. Also, use energy efficient light globes. They last for ages and dont use nearly as much power. Buy 1 ply toilet paper (its cheaper too). Catch public transport, recycle, read the newspaper on the internet (that will save you money). Turn off your TV and computer PROPERLY when you are not using them. Say no to plastic bags. Plant a tree. There is so many things you can do that will actually save you money. Hope this helps! :)

  7. Well, for starters, you could make sure that all recycling goes in the recycling bins, and trash go in trash bins. Next, if you take paper bags for lunch, you could try using a fabric bag instead. There are a lot of tips on websites: that is where I get a lot of green tips, but I can't just think of them off the top of my head. So, if you need more tips instead of buying things, there are definitely a lot on the Internet.

  8. Yes, use baking soda &  white distilled vinegar! I've used this for years! It costs pennies, but I also use seventh generation for my dishes. Try to do a search for a Whole Foods Market where you live,  they carry there own line of products that are the same price as conventional products... also try Amazon.com; they carry books on homemade products to make for cleaning your home! even Seventh Generation's website has coupons to print! let me say this: my daughter     ( and I ) had asthma, skin problems and allergies for years until I traded out ALL my conv. products for earth friendly and non-toxic products and we don't have to take any more meds., and we don't get nearly as sick as we used to - hardly at all! All it is, is a choice. Do you spends a few cents more for the better product? or opt out and pollute the water, and fund companies that test on animals?! A choice is easy when you know right from wrong... :)

  9. When buying products to use on yourself, you should use clear products.

Anything that has a milky look to it is full of nasty stuff.

I survived Breast Cancer and that is what I have researched.

  10. You may use my: My Best Recycling Idea

Besides recycling the plastic containers, you can improve your work or home environments by bringing live potted plants indoors.

    Major items needed:

One empty plastic gallon container.   Tree Top Apple Juice is preferred, or equal in shape.

One empty plastic ½ gallon container.  Langers All Pomergranate Juice is preferred or equal.

Directions:  Lay the plastic gallon container on its side so the front label is facing up.  Place the empty plastic half gallon container on the label and with a sharpie pen outline the bottom on the Tree Top label and with a sharp knife carefully cut the outline.  Insert the half gallon into the hole until it rest on the back label of the gallon container.  Then mark and cut approximately one inch above the cut on the ½ gallon  to complete your planter container.  Remove and drill several ¼ inch holes on the bottom of the ½ gallon cut container for drainage.

Fill the cut ½ gallon planter with one inch of gravel before putting in good potting mix soil and live growing plant.  If you make two or more you can pour the water back and forth and not waste the water with the nutrients.

Go to NASA’s Clean Air Plant Study for the top ten plants that cleans the indoor air better than the rest.   http://www.zone10.com/tech/NASA/Fyh.htm

  11. There are some older as well as some newer stuff on the

    market that are just as good to go green like;

Mr. Clean, Simple Green, OxyClean, Soft Scrub, Dawn to

name a few.  However, there are newer products all the time

that cost more and do about the same job.  Good luck.

  12. At Target they have Methods products.  They are still a little more expensive than the regular brands but not by too much.  The energy saver light bulbs are worth the price difference because they last a lot longer and don't break as easily.  Take reusable bags with you wherever you go.  Plastic bags are becoming a huge environmental problem.

  13. Hi there, it's great that you want to make this positive step to a greener society, so many more people need to do this!

There doesn't need to be a 'but...' when it comes to being greener. There are so many ways that you can make a difference........ and for FREE.

First up RECYCLE, everything, including your food waste. Create a compost pile in your garden for example.

Second, ditch the placstic bags and opt for a cotton one instead. You don't have to buy one, why not make your own out of old sheets or a pillow case.

Check this site for instructions, "Medusa8" has posted a blog on the matter.

In fact this is a great site for getting green tips and swapping ideas with those who are also passionate about a greener future.

Third, switch off all electrical sockets and lights when not in use. This saves money too!

Four,  buy in bulk where you can. This cuts down on packaging and transportation plus it will cost you less too.

Five, get some soapnuts. Soapnuts are a pure and natural detergent, environmentally friendly, allergy free, ecological and economical.

Soapnuts grown in India are harvested in a sustainable way, the nuts are dried and the shells contain saponin, a natural detergent. When added to water they form mild soap suds providing an organic, environmentally friendly alternative to detergent, soap and shampoo.

Soapnuts are allergy free so good for sensitive skin, babies and people with eczema. They contain no chemicals and are a natural organic product. They are biodegradable so simply throw them in your compost bin after use.

This site will send you a free sample:

This is where I get mine from, it's the cheapest I've found them so far and have free delivery:

Six, use eco friendly cleaning products like white vinegar, lemon juice and bicarbonated soda, they are cheap and safe but most of all eco and effective!

Seven, ditch the car when ever possible and walk! It's good for the bum and thighs too!

Eight, use an energy supplier that offers 'green' energy - some of them even send you free energy saving lightbulbs too.

Nine, if you have children opt for washable nappies, you can get them preloved off sites like ebay relativly cheaply, or your local council, like mine do, may have a sceme where they supply you with a FREE starter pack AND cash back for using them.

As you can see there are loads of things to do that can make a difference. And they cost you little r even nothing, sometimes even saving you money that can be put towards the more expensive green products.

    Blessed be x ; )

  14. There are a number of good products out there that are "better" for the environment such as Clorox Green Works and other SC Johnson products that are part of the that company's Green List.

However, these products are still produced from (largely) non-sustainable resources; meaning once they resource is harvested, that's it.

There are other products such as the Method line of cleaning products that are really pretty good for the environment, and are made from more renewable resources.

    Hope that helps!
