Ok, well i'm turning 16 and its time that i thought i got my head around my career choice. Well i want to go into acting, like in movies and shows. I know its what every kid wants to do but i really really want to do it, their is just one problem... My Mother. She doesn't want me to go into acting she want me to become a doctor (theirs nothing wrong with it but i really don't want to be one), I tried to talk to her about it but she thinks that i have to do what she wants me to do. So is their anyway i can go to school to become an actress and not tell my mother what i'm doing?!

Hope you can help

  1. As long as you're 16 and living under your Mom's roof, you'll need to obey her wishes.

You don't want to create any negative energy toward your acting career by lying to your Mom.

If she is willing to pay for college, but only if you go to medical school, then tell her 'no thanks'.

Can you show her you're serious by joining the drama club at your school or in your community?

If you want to act, then get out there and act!!!!!!

  2. Yes there's an actors studio in new york and almost every city.

You can even go to college to study theater.

Secret: just act as if it's a hobby first do school plays and community theater. And maybe we might see you no tv.

I'm sure when you get older and still participate in theater she'll see how committed you are and deal with it.

Just try to get a Bachelors degree in an art institute.

  3. In the end, its about doing what YOU love, and not letting other people (even those close to you) controlling your future. Sometimes you do know whats best for you.

If you really think you want to go into acting, take some classes at a community college or maybe your high school has drama? School plays? That'd be perfect for you. Even speech/debate class is better than nothing. Just do something that allows you to get up in front of people and do something. You'll definitely need those skills later in life as an actor.

Prove to your mom that you can do this! Talk to the school councilor. She can't tell you what classes you want to take.

Look for aspiring actors clubs or groups in your area, your local theater, etc. If your school doesn't have one, start one!

  4. I have a better idea than trying to go to school to become an actress behind your mother's back (which is impossible to hide, by the way).  Most actors/actresses didn't go to college for it.  Why don't you see if there's a local theater you can be a local actress in now?  And try to take part in school plays. Maybe go to a drama camp.  Do everything you can to become a good actress now.  Then when you graduate high school, go to college and do something "logical" as a backup plan.  Meanwhile, research to find places you can audition to be an actress.  Pursue a career in acting and a "logical" career as a backup.  Then both you and your mom can always be happy.

  5. not anything you can do until you are 18.  As long as mom is paying your way, you are going to have to do things her way.  Not many parents want their kids to go into acting which is the most difficult career in the world you could select. I do outline a way to try to become an actor while going to college and studying something else in my free book.
