  1. some people do and some dont. I got sea sick on my first cruise, the second didnt do anything. If you do get sick they sell some medication on the ship.

  2. Buy some Dramamine before your trip and take it before you cruise, and at the first sign of sea-sickness.

  3. I get seasick easily also.  I have been on eight cruises and I have never gotten seasick on a cruise ship yet.

As for cabin location, low and middle is best if you want the least amount of movement.  However, seasickness is caused by a conflict between the eyes and ears.  If you are inside, your eyes don't see any movement, while your inner ears can detect the movement.  It is this conflict that causes seasickness.

So, what can you do?  First of all, cruise ships are big and have stabilizers.  So the ships do not move all that much.  Nonetheless, I was on one cruise where I knew in advance that it might be a little rougher, so I took ginger.  100 tablets cost about $6 at Walgreens (or Rite-Aid).  One tablet in the morning before breakfast (with water) and one tablet in the evening before dinner (with water) and I was fine (I heard others on the ship got seasick).

I like ginger because it is not a drug and because it is the only thing that worked on Mythbusters.

Being outside where you can see the horizon helps also (that way both your eyes and your ears sense the movement of the ship and then there is no conflict).  Eating bland foods (bread, crackers ...) also helps.

By the way, the conflict can work in reverse.  I got seasick while sitting on my friend's couch.  I was playing a driving game on his big screen TV.  In that case my eyes saw movement, my ears didn't and my lunch ended up in his toilet.

I would also recommend that you try a short cruise (three or four nights) to see how you handle being at sea.  If it is a problem, it will be over soon.  If not, you can book a longer cruise the next time.

  4. My wife gets motion sick really easily and we've been on 3 cruises with no problems for her.

She gets sicker in a car than she does on a cruise ship.

    Should be a problem...

  5. hi. the first time i went on the cruise and got really seasick..but there are medication on board for purchase.

the second time i went for cruise, i told myself. it will be alright and try to use the mental power to overcome the fear. and the seasick didn't bother me as much.

i think if you were to ask for a room located near the middle of the ship, then it would not rock as much.

it was so much fun being on cruise ship, you should just give it a try. even thought i got seasick the first time around, it was totally worth the experience.

good luck and have a good trip.

  6. I have never gotten sea sick on any boat, but I did get sick on our cruise ship! Surprising, since ship have stablizers that help them not rock so much.

Take a short cruise if you're worried, and bring motion sickness pills or pathces, which really help. Carnval gives them away at their information desk.

Don't let a worry about motion sickness stop you from doing something if you really want to try it! If its not a good trip, you don't have to do it again. But who knows-- maybe you won't get sick!

  7. They've been able to do a lot with the large cruise ships recently to cut down on the rolling and swaying that often cause seasickness.  I couldn't even tell I was on a boat most of the time!

But that said, there is always the possibility of bad weather, and much stronger wave action that you will feel.  You can bring over the counter or prescription anti-seasickness pills, but if you know you will get seasick, then maybe a resort would be a better choice for you.

  8. If you are really intested in taking a cruise, I would suggest taking a short one - maybe 2 or 3 nights for the first time...just to make sure you can handle it. Chances are you probably won't get sick, because like the other person said cruises have done a lot in recent years to minimize the rocking that causes people to get sick. None the less, you are still on a ship, so for you, it may not be okay...I don't get sick on rides, at ALL, but i definitely felt the 'sea sickness' when i went on a cruise - not enough that i had a bad time, but i had to get myself some wristbands...(i don't think they work, but mentally...it helped..lol). They also sell other products on board the ship, such as dramamine - which would help. If you do get sick, it won't be fun! the 1st cruise i went on was 7 nights and one of my craaazy friends ended up flying home after the 5th because she couldn't take it anymore (ok, so that was a bit drastic for her to leave TWO days early, but you get my point). Some people will probably suggest going on a 'ferry' or something to try it out, but even the biggest ferry is not comparable to a cruise- you feel a lot more on a ferry. Even though it's huge, it's not even close to the size of a cruise ship.

I would stick with a resort, or if you really have your heart set on a cruise...make it a short one! =)

  9. bring dramomine.  we took some an hour before we got on the boat, and then every morning on the boat.  We never experienced sickness, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
