  1. I have been on the Mediterranean with Princess cruise line and it was fabulous. We Started in Spain, went to Greece, Italy, Rome, and Turkey. Venice was my favorite, with the romance, the Venetian glass, the beauty. I was most surprised by how much I liked Turkey too. I love Princesses food, the cabins, the entertainment, and the beautiful ships. I have been on 8 cruises with princess, and see no reason to try any other. We always eat in the dinning room, because then you don't eat as much food, and the presentation is wonderful, plus I do enjoy being waited on. Go to Princess.com and check out the ships, prices, and lots of pictures.

  2. If you prefer to cruise with young people (ages 20-35) hoose carnival becuase the majority of all carnival passengers are young people. but the funnest ship ive been on is royal carribean.

  3. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!

In terms of cruise lines, well, it really depends on what you like...

If you want a younger crowd take a shorter cruise rather than a longer one. (Retired don't have to worry about time off.) Less expensive cruises will also tend to have a younger crowd.

In terms of which specific cruise line...

Princess will have big ships, which will give you lots of choice. I'm not a big fan of their food, personally. I'd go with RCI if you can get on one of RCI's newer ships.

RCI is all about "sporty" and "activity" especially on their newer ships. Those are also big ships, so you'll have a range of restaurants - though not as many as NCL, they will be better quality. I'm a fan.

Carnival is now doing Europe and is all about nightlife, entertainment, fun and the social experience. I really like Carnival for the happy, fun atmosphere (RCI is less social, and their nightlife sucks). It also tends to be a younger group.

Holland America Line is great for service, a refined atmosphere and great enrichment programs. Food is awesome. Generally longer cruises, though and an older crowd.

Celebrity has beautiful ships and great food. Housekeeping and service are a little lax, but not bad in comparison with a regular land-based hotel. Same price tier as Holland America Line.

Oceania (which I went on in November) has small ships (around 800 people) and phenomenal food, but it's really expensive for what you get, and the service isn't all that.

Anyway, I hope that helps. You should also check out the "Choosing a Cruise" guide...

Not sure if this is your first cruise, but if so you might also want to check out the Introduction to Cruises (which covers stuff like how to avoid getting sea sick, what costs are included, etc) and the Know Before You Go guide (which covers what to pack, etc.):
