  1. A suggestion?

    Go in Salento, in Apulia and book this bed and breakfast in Lecce: http://www.lapiazzetta.lecce.it/ , and this holiday house in Otranto: http://www.otranto.puglia.it/

    These are the best little town in Italy!!!

  2. Florence, Venice and Rome are a must but also Bologna is gorgeous! I suggest you that city because it cuold be a different place to visit instead of the usual trip.

    Bologna is an historic town; you will find a lot of old medieval buildings and interesting museums.

    Food is gorgeous and...you know...people in Bologna is famous to be very kind and cheerful.

    think about it!

  3. rome, florence and venice are great for the art and history,

    Milan for its shopping and history. All have good food but stay away from touristy type restaurants, you're better off at tavola calda ( hot table) type restaurants were you won't be ripped off. If you go to Milan Switzerland is not far also ( 1 hour by car)

  4. you must visited rome, florence and venice

  5. every place in italy is full in history so whatever your choice is you won't be disappointed. having no idea of how long you're planning to stay here I'm going to give you a list of places hoping that you 'll find it usefull. Florence venice and rome are must see for every tourist. you can't miss the leaning tower in pisa which is only one hour from florence. one of my favourite spot in the middle of italy is assisi famous for the basilic of san francesco. perugia is very close and is lovely too. tourists also seem to love siena and san gimignano (in tuscany) and san marino. it's a characteristic village on the top of a hill from which you can get an amazing view. in the north you could visit verona and mantova where shakespeare set romeo and juliet. you can still admire the balcony in verona togheter with the famous arena that has nothing to do with shakespeare. if you like opera you could see one at the arena which is famous for it. the season runs from june to september (not sure about the months, sorry). milano has a beautiful cathedral and castle but if you don't have enough time I'd skip it if I were you. Instead you could spend a couple of days in amalfi, capri and naples, but please be careful in naples. i hate to tell you that but this is the reality. Sicily is delightful and rich of history too. Agrigento has the famous valley of the temples, palermo is a beautiful city (but be careful there too). Taormina is fantastic. Still in sicily. I think this is enough for you. I hope I helped you and I wish you a wonderful stay in my country.

  6. Being you interested in history, and the arts, I just add one more advice. Some special books can train you to understand better the place:

    - "My journey in Italy" by J. W. Goethe;

    - "A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy" by L. Sterne.

  7. Italy is ALL full of history, art, food and, well, people :)

    So, almost everybody is going to advice you to visit the place where they're living in!

    What I can suggest you is to avoid the "usual" resorts, since in summer they're crowded by tourists!

    Since I live in Piedmont, I suggest you to visit Piedmont, for both the reason above; Turin is one of the most underrated city in Italy for tourism, but is one of the most important for both history, art, food. You may also visit the lakes, like Lago Maggiore (quiet and beautiful small cities like Arona or Stresa are there). North in summer is warm but not so hot.
