I would love to go to Cuba one day so that my children can experince their culture. My mother and grandparents were from Cuba but came here and my mom married an American.....hence ME......well my BIL's father-in-law is Bulgarian and he was telling me that he was planning on going to Mexico with his American passport and then from Mexico he was going to Cuba but with the Bulgarian passport and he told me that since my huband is a Mexican National that I should be able to get a Mexican passport through him.......but we live in the US???? Is this true and if so, then I should be able to go to Cuba with no problems?????? Do I get fined otherwise?

  1. The Mexican (or any non-US passport) idea is probably best. But I have heard that for a small fee (bribe?) the Cuban authorities will neglect to stamp an American's passport, therefore avoiding all problems. No stamp=no visit.

  2. I used to live in Miami, and I think most of the cubans used to go through Jamaica.  I don't think there are restrictions on going to cuba as long as you don't bring lots of money or articles for sale, etc...

  3. Since the Republicans took control of the White House in 2000, Americans have suffered strict fines and penalties for going to Cuba.  You used to be able to fly to Canada, and then on to Cuba, and not have to worry about being traced and fined.  Not any more.

People with dual citizenships and passports however don`t have to worry about this.

If your husband is a Mexican National, you should be able to get a Mexican Passport.  You`re going to need it if you go to Cuba, because the US government will go out of its way to fine you for going there.  If you have a Mexican Passport,  then there`s no way for the US government to trace your itinerary to Cuba.

    Hope this helps you,

    Peace

  4. You may only travel to Cuba from the U.S. if you have permission from the government.  You should refer to this website for more information... http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw...

By the way...if you are caught entering Cuba from Mexico or any other country and you are a US Citizen you will have your passport revoked permanently and could face jail time.

  5. You could check with the nearest mexican consulate to ask if you are allowed to apply for a Mexican passport.  See website below.

  6. I don't know about going to cuba through Mexico but American citizens I have know have gone to Cuba via Canada with no problems.

  7. ok, the simplest way to answer your question is yes, you can go to cuba.  cubans know that americans are not suppossed to be there, so they do NOT stamp your passport when you get there.  that's how they deal with it.  simple.  however, you must have confirmed reservations at a hotel....or provide a relatives address.  the government wants to know exactly WHY you are there and WHERE you will be.

as far as the mexican passport thing....you get one when you become a citizen.  which takes 5 years...same as the US.  so....i don't think you want to wait that long.
