Assuming the ticket is from North America, it is overpriced. But who knows with the latest gas prices - maybe, that's the going rate these days. I think you should be able to manage a ticket for around $1400. Anyway, Good luck.

$1800 would normally be the cost to travel from US to India including the return.

To travel from South end of India to the North end it will cost apprx $200.

I think it's overpriced. Check with other airlines it should be around $1500.
