I want to go to Egypt.?

I really want to plan a trip to Egypt this year before I go back to the United States (I am living in Europe) but I think the only time I will be able to go is over Christmas vacation (I am a teacher) in December. IS this a good time to go? Why or why not? Also what are some things that I should definitely try to do. Is there anything I should know as an American traveler? I am also a young woman. I am hoping to convince one of my male colleagues to go with me as I don't feel very safe traveling by myself. If I am not able though is it very dangerous for a young, single, American woman in Egypt? Are there places I should avoid going? Any tips or suggestions you have are appreciated. I am in the very early planning stages but I would really like to go.

Look into a tour. I travelled through Eastern/Central Europe on one and had a fantastic time. They have tours catering to the 18-35 age group, and many of the travellers are in the same position as yourself (as I was when I went), I went alone, and it's nice because you dont have to worry about arranging transportation and accmodation, it's all done for you. You also get some very cool opportunities that you wouldnt have if you went alone. The weather is mild there in December although it can get cold at night. check out www.topdecktours.co.uk I'm hoping to do the 15 day pyramids and beaches tour in May. I know I wouldnt feel comfortable travelling around Egypt on my own. I've heard that Aswan, Luxor, Cairo, and the sinai are the must-sees in Egypt.

Congratulations for your choice to spend your vacation in Egypt. You will enjoy it I am sure. The timing is perfect. In December the weather is nice, sunny and mild.

My advice is to buy an organized tour. Leave hotel bookings, plane tickes, sight seeing, transportation, guiding etc to them. It runs perfectly this way. When you buy a tour from the country where you live, the travel agent will relay the services to a local Egyptian agency that they trust according to previous experiences with them. You will be escorted during sight seeing and airport trips.

It is safe to travel alone if you like.
