I have graduated with a BA in art, minors in art administration and art history from a private, fairly known college. I have a 3.8 GPA and graduated with honors. I've had multiple internships at museums and art institutions.
When I studied abroad in Egypt, I became interested in Arabic language and antiquities. This is where I want to aim my career. I want to combine the two, because surely there are problems with illegal art trafficking there.
Now, my problem is...I am intersted in a graduate program at the University of Chicago. The program focuses on Arab art history, but also includes language. The program: http://www.cmes.uchicago.edu/index.html
I have only taken one course two years ago for Arabic and recently signed up for one that was cancelled because lack of students. I am raelly disappointed and want to pursue Arabic language. There is a college 2 hours north that offers arabic classes. About 1,500 per class. And about 13 classes. Arabic is not even a major offered, but the courses are available to be taken.
Would I have to register? Pay out of pocket for the classes? Find a tutor? Hope that I will be competitive enough for the University of Chicago?
Any suggestions?
