I am a U.S. citizen, and I would like to go and live in Italy for a year. However, to be able to survive there, I need to be able to work and have a job. But first, I need to get a visa. How do I go about getting a visa? Also, is there a visa available that allows me to work there? thanks.

  1. To work in Italy as an American citizen you must have both a residence permit and a worker registration card, not a visa. The application process must be begun by the company in Italy that hires the worker. The Italian work permit cannot be applied for by either the employee or a recruiting firm or a job agency.

This means that you can find a job either before you go or after you arrive, but then your employer must apply for your work permit; once you have it, you apply for the residence permit.

  2. you need to look on the internet, by your qualifications, job,to see if there is a job in your field,

find a job,ant then ask for a work visa,

most of the adds will be in Italian:
