I wanted to make a day-trip to stonehenge and then wanted to go off to Tintagle castle which is supposedly nearby Stonehenge. Are there bus or train-routes from Stonehenge to Tintagle castle?

  1. sorry, can't be done. Tintagel is on Cornwall-north Cornwall-on the coast. We are taking a coach trip there from Amesbury nr Stonehenge in a month's time and we have to set out at 6:30 AM! it's not easy to get to even in Cornwall- I think they might run a weekly  coach trip from Penzance bus station. We went there while staying in Newquay but taking a local service bus.

  2. I dont know who told you they were close to each other they are in 2 different counties!! Stonehenge is in Wiltshire and Tintagle is in Cornwall, hope you have a time machine if you want to do them both in the same day!

  3. Err, they're about 175 miles apart, by the fastest route.

No train stations near Tintagel or Stonehenge.

From London, coach day-trips tend to offer Salisbury or Bath as a second attraction.

I've found one that offers Stonehenge, Bath and *Windsor* Castle...

  4. As the others said, you couldn't do it easily. Tintagel is a ruin, although the setting is spectacular and the surrounding area is also lovely.

  5. This is two separate trips, and you would need to drive. The A303 by Stonehenge is a slow road anyway, not much in dual carriageway.

Tintagel is in Cornwall, which doesn't have much public transport. It is well worth a visit, the scenery is dramatic, with towering cliffs, and a pounding ocean. If you did manage to travel by bus, you would have several changes of coach on your journey, and you wouldn't be able to get back on the same day. If you want to come by bus, would suggest National Express London to Launceston (nowhere near Stonehenge), and get a local bus service to Tintagel, but you may have to stay in Launceston overnight, the bus leaves London Victoria at 11.00am, and arrives at Launceston at 4.55pm, and there may not be a service to Tintagel after that. I have Googled, and can't find any service from Launceston to Tintagel, but not all local operators are on the internet.

    No railway near either

  6. Out of the question, you are pushed for time even if you rent a car.
