Both of my parents attended OSU. My moms parents went to OSU. They are die-hard. Our basement is scarlet and grey. Everything in our basement is OSU themed.

But I really want to go to University of Michigan..

I feel like my parents will be disapointed in me. What should I do?

  1. You need to go where YOU want to go. Believe me. I did the "I'll go where everyone wants me to go" thing and I was miserable. If they love you they will support your decision even if they are not ecstatic. Live your life, not the life your parents or anyone else wants you to live. You are presumably now becoming an adult and making choices that will effect you for the rest of your life.

Besides...OSU is a diploma mill and Michigan is consistently among the best schools in the nation ; )

  2. You need to go to college where you want to go. You can't let anyone else influence your decision, this can affect the rest of your life. You definitely don't want to look back on this and think "I could have gone to Michigan..."

As for dealing with your parents, my advice is to wait until you get in. There is no point in upsetting them before you actually get in. And then once you do, just sit down with them and explain why it is you want to go to Michigan. Maybe its because it has your major, you like Ann Arbor or a lot of intermural sports. Whatever it is, just be honest.

I am a UofM student with a UofM dad, but I have one brother at OSU and one brother at MSU. My OSU brother was the first to to go to college and my parents were not happy, but now everytime the OSU vs. Michigan and Michigan vs. MSU games roll around, it's a huge fun rivalry in my house.

    Good luck and GO BLUE!

  3. All of these are fantastic answers and if you chose the attend Michigan/Go home Nov. 22 weekend ..... can I have your ticket?

    "Hail to the Victors!"

Seriously though it comes down to where you are going to feel most comfortable walking to class in 0 degree weather b/c face it both places are c.o.l.d.
