The football stadium is more or less in the centre of madrid.  You can get the metro from the centre in under 15 mins.  So stay in the centre and go look at the stadium whilst you are there.

Stay at Puerta del Sol...any hotel in that area.  You´ll be right, smack dab in the middle of the city, at one of the biggest changing stations for the metro...to the stadium where Real Madrid plays, only minutes.  

And you can walk to the Plaza Mayor, Rastro, Gran Vía, minutes to the Prado, the Palacio Real...all pretty much right there.

Here's where we stayed.  No frills, clean, and steps to the Plaza Mayor.  Honest...like fifteen steps.
