Im 28 and Ive interailed throughout Europe 10 years ago when I ws 18 and enjoyed parts of it, but its getting to that time i my life where I want to see places such as Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong and The states. Thing is, I know this is a really biog step, especially when I would be going by myself. How should I start to plan my trip, and how do I meet people when I get out there> Im guessing I would meet them in youth hostels and then go o the trips with them or simply hang out and see the places where we are at, together? Is that right? Its a bit daunting especially going on my own,

Any advice / tips / suggestions?

Im thinking about an itinery a bit like this........

London -> Hong Kong -> Sydney -(Then do al the east coast up to Cairns) -> Fiji -> San Francisco -? Los Angeles -> New York/Boston -> London

  1. Well enjoy!

Attached are 3 travelling sites for Australia and one for worldwide...

The first two will give you some travel ideas.  Maybe you can go sailing in the Whitsunday's or something...

Ozexperience is a bus / tour company...  They might be useful to go part of your journey???

Couchsurfing is a site and you can go stay at people's places for a day or two which might give you an insight into a local area...

In smaller towns go to the Information Centres and ask what's popular, what's on in the town.

In larger places like Sydney and Brisbane go hang out at things you like doing (clubs or dining  areas or such...)

  2. I've just returned from 2 months in England, Wales, Scotland and Wales.  The only thing I planned ahead was my air tickets.  Everyday prior to going to bed, I would look at my map and decide where I went from there.  I didn't have a problem getting accommodation anywhere.  It was absolutely the greatest thing I have ever decided to do.  Yes, I went on my own, and I am a 52 year old female.

  3. Sounds amazing . Good on you. your plans sound good. There are plenty of backpackers accomodation through Australia I'm sure you will get to know a lot of people at the backpackers and pick up any amount of ideas.
