  1. This is the University of Florida Vegetable Gardening guide.

Find your zone on it to find out when to plant which vegetables.  I'm in SW Florida, and I plant mine in the winter.  Our seasons are reversed, mostly.  We plant most summer veggies in September, and replant in January.  Not many things grow well in the summer except cherry tomatoes, eggplant, okra, and peppers.

  2. potatoes are easy yo grow. buy a bag of seed potatoes and cut them into pieces. you should have at least 2 eyes on each piece. make mounds with loose soil and plant them about 2 to 3 inches deep and about 2 to 3 feet apart. keep watered.

  3. Potato season is over for this year, however if you want to plant Red Potatoes ( often called new Potatoes ) you can call Toll free 1-877-5646697.Its called Johnny's and they sell only certified Potato seed, which means they are free from Disease and they are true to type! They have many different Vegetable seeds! Call for a catalog! This is not an add for Johnny's,it is intended only as a suggestion for the asker!

  4. plant what you like and make sure that there will be plenty of sun where ever you put it

    Cooperative Extension System Offices

"This section of our Web site will help you find your nearest Cooperative Extension office. The Cooperative Extension System is a nationwide, non-credit educational network. Each U.S. state and territory has a state office at its land-grant university and a network of local or regional offices. These offices are staffed by one or more experts who provide useful, practical, and research-based information to agricultural producers, small business owners, youth, consumers, and others in rural areas and communities of all sizes.

CSREES is the federal partner in the Cooperative Extension System. It provides federal funding to the system and, through program leadership, helps the system identify and address current issues and problems. "

  6. Go to a reputable local nursery, with the measurements of your proposed garden site, & ask away about what to plant, etc. Take paper & pencil with you so you can take notes.

  7. check with the ag extension office in your county seat , they have pamphlets and good old oral advise.

  8. there should be garden centre where you live. they can provide you with info. if you decide to go with potoatoes try this link

  9. Check local Nursery for Best plantings in Your Area...!!

  10. Seems like you start potatoes very early in the year. more suited to cooler climates.

I would focus more on the warm season veggies down there, such as peppers, squash, Okra, melons, tomatoes, -long season.

I would stay away from the cool season items like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collard and other greens. - short season.

You can probably do some of the tropicals down there.

  11. I don't know about potatoes.  I've never tried that when I lived

in Georgia, but we used to grow tomatoes, butter beans,

cucumbers, yellow squash ,okra, corn, strawberries, watermelons..and in the fall collard greens.

  12. I live in Florida also and I plant a garden every year and I've never tried red potatoes.Everything that I plant really grows well here as long as you water well. The most I can tell you is to try and grow them but,I am from up north originally and they plant the potatoes in September, that would probly be goos advice for you that way when it gets cold in feb they should be ready for picking.Dont forget you need to make mounds like you do when planting cucumbers, good Luck!

  13. It can't be all that hard.  I had a boyfriend in Florida who had the dang things sprouting in his refrigerator!   The area around Flagler and Putnam counties has potato farms.  Are you near there?

  14. talk to your local nursery.
