Question:

I want to grow some bacteria, can someone help me out?

But i dont have an agar petri dish.. is there any other way i can like take swabs from around my home and then grow them to see what bacteria is there? thankyou

  1. There's a recipe on this website http://cache.search.yahoo.net/search/cac... that only uses gelatin (like unflavored Jello), water, and and vegetable stock to make a homemade agar.  If you don't have petrie dishes, you can use jars (like a jelly jar) instead.  The jar should  have a cover, and you'll need to sterilize these first (both the jar and lid) so you don't contaminate the cultures with bacteria that may already be on/in them.


  2. I did this as an assignment in high school using the same recipe the person above me listed. I just bought some cheap little tupperware containers from the dollar store. It worked, we got to send our most unusual specimens out for analysis. Pretty gross what we found out.
