  1. Potentiometers are not used in missiles, launch vehicles, or satellites, except in extremely rare instances.  There is no need to place a pot. inside a missile, rocket circuitry, or satellite circuitry, because there is no possible way to adjust it once it is launched.

Potentiometers also weigh too much compared with their discrete resistor divider equivalent, and they are prone to changing value with the extreme vibrations found in missiles and launch vehicles (even with 'glue' holding the position).  So, they are simply not used.

What is done in the circuit development and manufacture of a particular circuit for missile, launch vehicle, or satellite avionics board is to place pads and holes for several fixed resistors with undefined values (or a defined range of values) that form a potential divider.  During manufacturing of the printed circuit board, or hand-wired circuit, the circuit is connected to a tester.  The tester exercises the circuit to allow determination of the voltage divider ratio.  The values of the potential divider are selected at the time and discrete resistors are installed -- usually precision resistors.
