I want to have a few beauty hours before the wedding, is this common?

I went to my Aunts wedding when I was 17. I was a brides maid. And my hair looked like c**p. It was long, and back then I didnt even know what the heck a straighter was.

For my wedding I want to pamper my brides maids. I want to have a beauty room for hair and other pampering needs.

Do many brides do this for their ladies? Also I want to provide rooms. And I know it will be expensive that is why my fiance and I are planning two years in advance. This way we wont have to charge a thing. Everything will have been saved for over time.

  1. A few days to week before the wedding I would suggest you and your bridesmaids visit a salon together. At least get a manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow waxing. That way on the day of the wedding you won't have to worry about that.

On your wedding day, I think you have the right idea. Have a room set aside for you and the girls. Allow plenty of time so you guys can do each others hair and make up. Invite the mothers in to help out too.

  2. a few hours before the wedding might be too chaotic, probably the nite before is best, but a room so they can look their best is awesome and sweet. but i think that the brides maid can help pay for the dresses, but its nice of you to want to give everyone an easy time but they should step in with the wardrobe because all those things can really add up with only one person footing the bill.

  3. Make sure you allow yourself PLENTY of time.

All my bridesmaids are spending the night with me in my apartment and my fiance is staying with his mum. We are having a "girls night" which I hope will keep my nerves to a low. We are up early to get things done, hair, makeup, last minute details.

A week before the wedding I have rented out a spa for all of us to go to, getting massages, spa soak, and manicures.

  4. I don't think it is common, but it would be a nice idea and also a way for you all to relax right before the ceremony(when even the bridal parties nerves are high)  Most brides buy their bridesmaids a gift to say thank you, this could be your way of thanking them.

  5. I was in two weddings, and neither bride ever did that. My mom did my hair for the first one and my best friend did mine for the second. But what you are doing is a very nice gesture.

  6. Great idea!

    Weddings are so frantic!

What I'd suggest is that you take care of as many details as possible ahead of time ... make sure the caterer, band or DJ, flowers, cake, decorating ... all that ... is taken care of.  Designate someone NOT in the wedding party to oversee last-minute details.

The wedding-day itself should be for you and your girls.  Especially if you're willing to pay for all of it!  Either hire a hairdresser and makeup artist to come to you (book a suite in a nice hotel, perhaps?) or make arrangements for a block of appointments at a salon.

Get together with your bridesmaids a few months ahead of time and talk about how you all would like the day to go ... talk about what services each of you would like to have available ...

If you're willing to spring for a mani/pedi, facial, massage, those should be done earlier in the week (assuming everyone is in town and available).  In any case, allow plenty of time for hair, makeup, and getting dressed.  You might want to arrange for a light lunch (or at least some munchies) to be served, depending on what time the ceremony will be.  Just be sure to allow enough time to get each girl and YOU prettied up to perfection with time to spare before you make your grand appearance!  That way, everyone will be on time and relaxed ... no last-minute emergencies!

Ahh ... of course there will be a last-minute emergency or two!  That's what the moms are for ... safety-pins, needle-and-thread, Tylenol, extra stockings ... (!) ... kleenex ... don't forget the kleenex!

Have fun pampering yourself and your bridesmaids.  It's a once-in-a-lifetime day ... enjoy every minute of it.
