  1. Why? I mean what's the purpose? To know who came and who didn't? Or to just look cool?

  2. You might be able to hire just the right person to do that at the same place you hire someone to tend the bar.  Have a fun party!

  3. I do think you need to have someone there to greet the guests and direct them when they arrive.

I do this for all my parties. As hostess, I'm often busy doing this or that, mixing a drink, etc. etc., and I don't want the door to be unattended. Also...I don't want to have to man the door for late comers.

One way to help the hostess know who is coming and to help them get seated is to have seating cards laid out on a table. She can then greet them, help them find their cards (with their seating instructions), and then direct them to their table.

If you do this, the hostess will know when everyone has arrived (or can keep you updated in case you are waiting for someone special to arrive), and it won't appear that you are "checking them off" as they arrive.

Part of being a good hostess is making sure your guests feel very welcomed, and having a friendly face meet them at the door does just that!

The staff at your venue might can provide someone, or, you can get a friend to do it for you.

    Good luck!

  4. I AM JUST GOING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING I JUST SAID.  HONEY YOU DO NOT NEED SOMEONE TO CHECK OFF 60 - 80 PEOPLE.  I THOUGHT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT A HUGE PARTY.  DO NOT TREAT YOUR GUESTS LIKE A NUMBER  SORRY!  YOU ASKED THE QUESTION AND I AM JUST "KEEPING IT REAL"
