I had a caesarean section 7 years ago but the hospitals in Australia are not keen on letting me give birth to my baby vaginally (they think it's big by looking at me)

  1. they can not tell if baby is big by looking at you, i had fortnightly scans (which is the most accurate way of telling size) and still they over estimated by 1.5 lb

if you want a VBAC agree to have it in the hospital under there supervision good luck

  2. I don't know about Australia but in the US it depends on how the previous incision was made, why you had the previous c-section, and how your pregnancy is going now.  If you have read all the information about a VBAC and really want to try, then talk with your doctor.

  3. I do not know about Australia but in the US most Dr's will not deliver vaginally after a c/section.  It is due to the increased risk during delivery.  You might have to go with a midwife instead of an Ob to get someone who will do a VBAC.  Not to scare you but there is a risk of the scar tearing during a vaginal delivery, I believe the odds are 1 out of 100.  But for the c/section scar to tear under the pressure of pushing during the vaginal birth is more than most Dr's want to deal with.  I know alot of the Dr's insurance companies will not cover them to do the procedure so they will not do it.  Good luck and I am sure you will find someone to allow you to try vaginal birth.  It also depends on the reasoning of your c/section, while they can not make you do a c/section they can refuse you as a patient and not delver the baby vaginally.  Keep and open mind as to why you are being told no and that way you can do whats best for you and your baby

  4. I say, just listen to the doctors. The baby could cause you harm. Or having the baby naturally could cause the baby harm, if they think that the baby is too big.

  5. consult with a midwife! many are more understanding about wanting to do things more naturally.

  6. They cannot force you to have a c-section unless the baby is in danger. Just stand your ground when it comes to how you want to deliver.
