  1. I can give you two.  One is know your pace and hit it on the first lap, even if you're behind.  The key is not to panic.  Hit that same lap again, and than really work on your third lap.  The last lap is all guts.  If you're a 4:40 runner, go out in 1:10, 2nd lap 1:10 and than work on the negative split.  I'm a big believer in consistant or quicker 2nd half.  Or you could do what I used, which was take it out hard and try and hang on.  Not the brightest strategy but it can work.  I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.  Good luck.

  2. What I usually do is go out on the first lap a few seconds fast, at most 7 seconds fast.  Run your 2nd lap at pace, and when you hit the last 600 meters of the race, start to speed up a little.  When you hit the last 400 meters, try to pick it up a touch, and when you hit the last 150 meters, just go all-out.  I find this allows you to PR well, so long as you don't die your 3rd lap.  When I do this, as long as my 3rd lap is on-pace with or faster than every other quarter, I tend to PR.

  3. if your running the mile take the first and second lap on pace and then on the third lap feel go almost as fast as u can and then on the fourth lap the last 200 meters sprint it .

one thing to do to help during the race is to draft off someone then right when u start the forth lap pass him and make sure he doesnt draft off u.

but if your in first i have to say is make sure no one is drafting off u

  4. run for position not time just try to keep up to the guy ahead of you

  5. Running is mental, especially long distance running. You can't let the pain overtake you. My coach always tells me to eat the pain. You have to ignore that voice in your head that tells you that it hurts. Everyone is capable of being an amazing runner, everyone hurts the same, it all comes down to who is going to suck it up, be tough, forget the pain, and just run their hardest. You have the physical capability to be good since you practice, now you have to just bring the mental aspect into it.
