Question:

I want to help my friend increase his stamina in running, how do I do this?

Whenever I play a game of tag with my friend, he can run extremely fast, to the point where I had to run so fast to get away from him that I could feel my feet burning, and he probably would have caught me if it wasn't for the fact that he stopped. Our fastest speed is roughly the same, but by the time he's too tired to run, I'm hardly out of breath. Our differences in stamina are so great, the best strategy is to just run slower than usual, let him catch me, and by the time he's caught me he won't have enough stamina to run away and I don't even have to try, despite how fast he is. As he is my rival as well, I NEED him to be the best opponent for me as possible so I can better myself trying to keep up with him. How do I train him to get his stamina up?

  1. Japanese ice skaters use the "HIIT" technique to dramatcally develop stamina. In HIIT (High intensity interval training) you make a series, say 8-10, short races each no more than a minute longer, at the fastest possible speed until you puke. Going fast is not enough, you have to explode.

For some reason such training increases stamina and reduces body fat even if you dont burn much calories.

  2. dont go for speed, just go the distance. once he can run a farther distance at a slow speed, increase the speed he runs at. Eventually he will have worked up his endurance. Its not something you can do fast, sorry
