My greatest sympathies go out to those who are homeless--even if it was because these people may have lacked the personal responsibility and initiative. I'm thinking about opening a luxury homeless shelter (when I get job that will support such a plan) with wonderful food and extremely comfortable lodging. But I'm worried about the safety of this plan? Like I know a lot of homeless people have AIDS, can be violent due to drugs and bitterness, and I don't want to get hurt. So what can I do?

  1. Firstly, Its a good idea, but like you said safety is a issue here.

You should focus on the kids. They are the ones that need the most help, homeless cause of abuse.

This idea would need for you to hire security and would need constant supervision with some sort of recovery programs in place. eg some good psychologists. some good recreational activities.

And alot of communication, that can be well managed.

  2. LOL.

Chances are if they're homeless than there's good reason, and if there wasn't, there is now.

I would only help those who have sought out help, got off drugs, and proved that they wanted to make a contribution to society.

If you want something in life you have to earn it.  If you act like a jackass you shouldn't get rewarded with luxury accommodations.  However, if you once made poor decisions but have tried to turn your life around and contribute rather than detract from society those efforts should go rewarded.

  3. I admire your desire to help less fortunate people, but you don't need to wait till you have a well paid job to do this. Why don't you move your stuff into the garage, persuade Mom and Pop to tidy up a couple of the guest bedrooms, and invite three or four homeless people to share your home? I guess Mom's cooking is wonderful and the beds are luxurious, and it would be quite safe because you would have all your family around you.

On the other hand, if Mom and Pop point out the pitfalls of this plan, you will at least gain an insight into some of the potential difficulties with your 'Dream Shelter'.

Seriously, I suggest you approach one or two charities who deal with the problems of the homeless, offering to do some part time voluntary work. That way you would be making a great contribution to your community and gaining valuable experience at the same time.

Best of luck, and don't get depressed or downhearted by what you meet.
